Jody in Houston,
Texas, the finest

website!!!
Jody Brownd has been
drawing caricatures
in Houston, Texas
for 23 years. Thanks
to his wife Deby who works as Jody's
booking agent, Jody keeps very busy
drawing the masses. Together Jody
and Deby have 4 awesome children
who also are very talented in art.
Jody teaches art classes, writes
instructional books on how to draw,
and is dedicated to the eradication of
"drawing illiteracy" in America!
Jody got his start in caricatures with a
summer job at Astro World to help
work his way through art school.
Jody graduated from the Art Institute
of Houston in 1985 with a Degree in
Graphic Design. In 1987 he joined
the Army Reserves and served as an
Illustrator (81E). Jody was able to
use his talents by drawing funny
pictures of the Lieutenant! Since
then, he has worked at the Citizen
Newspaper in the late 80's and at the
Green Sheet as an illustrator in the
early 90's, all the while drawing
caricatures part-time. But then,
Jody's dream of drawing caricatures
as a career materialized in 1993.
With the help of veteran caricature
artist Dan Dunn, Jody rocketed to
success as a caricaturist.
Caricatures by Jody thanks the
artists and agents who have worked
with Jody down through the years for
their help and encouragement.

in an area where the action of the

multiple artists, it is wise to place
them together if at all possible. The

The Dumbing Down of
Basic Drawing Skills In Education
February 27, 2008 by tombodrawingdude
Growing up, I never was very good in math, English, science, reading,
etc. Art was my thing. Now that I am older, looking back I see a serious
problem in the area of drawing education. So let me ask you, can you
draw, were you taught how to draw? Most people would answer “no, and I
can’t draw a stick figure”. Why? Because drawing was never important to
those who put curriculum's together, and most likely they did not know
how to draw. Therefore, when it comes to education, there is a devalued
viewpoint when it comes to art. For example, when I was in school I nearly
failed typing class. But I was forced to try harder, and the excuse “I just
can’t type” just didn't seem to matter. I was expected to learn. Same with
English, math, science, etc. But when it comes to drawing, A for effort.
The drawing is not very good, but no matter, you get an A for trying. I
wish math class was so easy. I could see it now… “little Johnny, what is
3+7″ Johnny says “6″. Teacher say “good job, you get a star because
you were so close.” You would never do that with other subjects. But
when it comes to drawing, there are definite principles that should be
followed. Even if you are quote “not talented in drawing”, everybody can
learn to some extent. And those who learned how to draw as children will
find that it comes in handy at times as adults. By the way, even though I
practically failed typing class and every other subject but art class, what I
did learn finally took hold as an adult and has helped me become a
successful artist business owner. www.caricaturesbyjody.com
